Southwest Airlines giving employees free COVID vaccinations

Southwest Airlines

News outlets are reporting that Southwest Airlines is giving their employees free COVID vaccinations. Clearly, this will give Southwest customers peace of mind when flying.

“Jan 21 (Reuters) – Southwest Airlines Co said on Thursday it would vaccinate its employees against COVID-19 for free once a vaccine has been made widely available in the United States.

The airline said its employees were strongly encouraged to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“We have teams working to identify third parties who can provide vaccines to our employees as soon as they are able to do so – likely during later phases in the vaccine roll-out plan,” the U.S. carrier said in a statement.

The vaccines are paid for by the federal government and the administrative fees will be covered for Southwest employees under its health plans, the company said.”

Here’s the dealio.

Southwest Airlines has really limited great itineraries from Jacksonville to Cancun. Since cruising has been paused, I’ve fallen in love with the all-inclusive resort experience in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Pre-COVID, you could catch a Southwest Airlines flight from Jax, jet non-stop to Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, quick layover, then boom, you’re in Cancun!

Since COVID hit, the Southwest itinerary is Jax, BWI, (or HOU), then Cancun! Certainly makes for a long travel day! Granted, you get a free “checked bag” on Southwest Airlines which saves a bit of money.

During my two most recent trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, I flew on Delta. The center seats were blocked which gave me peace of mind. Jetting from Jax to Atlanta on Delta is great because it’s basically a one hour flight!

The only problem that I’ve experienced flying out of Atlanta is the announcement, “Good Afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen! I’m Captain Sully Sullenberger. We are currently 103rd in line for take-off!”

Anyway, I’ll be flying from Jax to Cancun on Southwest Airlines to Puerto Vallarta, via Houston. Stay tuned for updates here on my blog, and on my YouTube/Instagram channels.

Palladium Vallarta, here I come!
