Getting your passport in Duval County, Florida

The U.S. State department has revealed that estimates to process a routine new passport application has changed from six to nine weeks to eight to eleven weeks due to increased demand. Expedited processing may take five to seven weeks. Keep in mind the clock starts when the State Department receives the information, not from the date you mailed it.

All who travel outside the United States need a passport. This includes anyone traveling to Canada, Bermuda, and the Caribbean. The Clerk’s Office offers passport service for both individual applicants and families applying for multiple passports during one visit.

Passport service is available through both appointments and walk-in hours. Pre-scheduled appointments can be made for the following Clerk locations:

Walk-in service is available:

  • Duval County Courthouse: 501 W Adams Street, Room 1046
    • Walk-ins accepted between 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Neptune Beach Branch: 1543 Atlantic Blvd, Neptune Beach, FL 32266
    • Walk-ins accepted between 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Please note: when applying for your passport, two (2) separate fees and different forms of payment are required. Please check the Passport Fees section of this page to review the accepted forms of payment for each.

I’ve had hundreds of people ask me if a passport is required to take a cruise. If you are leaving from a U.S. cruise port and returning to a U.S. cruise port, a passport is not required; however, I strongly recommend that you do use a passport. Why? Let’s say you miss the ship in a foreign port, like in Nassau, Bahamas. You will need a passport to return to the United States by air! Do a YouTube search on “Pier Runners” and you will see what I mean!
