CruiseRadio is reporting that Carnival Corp is selling four Holland America Line ships. “Another round of Carnival Corporation ships has been sold. Holland America Line announced that Amsterdam, Maasdam, Rotterdam and Veendam will be leaving the fleet and transferring to undisclosed buyers.
The four ships have been sold in pairs, with the S-Class Maasdam and Veendam transferring to one company in August 2020, while the R-Class Amsterdam and Rotterdam will move to another company in fall 2020.”
Marty and I have sailed on the Maasdam many times. We’ve enjoyed 10, 11, and 14 day southern Caribbean cruises. We have great memories of sailing to Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Martinique, St. Barts, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Thomas and Puerto Rico.

Back in the day, passengers on the Maasdam would enjoy an amazing, and emotional going away party in the main showroom.
The staff and crew seems just as sad as the passengers to say goodbye after a long voyage.
Marty and I met so many members of the Maasdam crew that we would see again, and again, and again! The best thing was that they remembered our names!
I know that thousands of guests who’ve sailed on these iconic and “traditional” vessels are sad to see them go.
It breaks my heart that COVID-19 has turned the cruise industry, tourist destinations, and the hard-working crews lives upside down.
Many of you reading this post have enjoyed the food, entertainment, and ports of call that only a cruise experience can provide.
It didn’t matter if Marty and I were in the Penthouse suite, an ocean-view or an inside cabin. We loved cruising on the Maasdam.
We can only hope a vaccine for this dreaded disease will be found soon, and we can return to the ocean and our many friends who are like family on cruise ships.
