Why I chose to receive the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine

The COVID-19 vaccination record card.

I know that there is quite a bit of debate on either taking or choosing not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. I deeply respect everyone who chooses not to receive the vaccine for whatever reasons they state. With that in mind, I wanted to share why I recently received my 2nd Pfizer vaccine.

My wife of 37 years is a lung-cancer survivor. Over 16 years ago she had her entire left lung removed due to stage IIb lung cancer. She was able to receive her Covid-19 vaccine because she’s a substitute school teacher, and I was offered the vaccine when she received her shot. My grandsons are close to ages 4 and 2, and if I can spend time with them without concern of giving them COVID, it makes sense to me.

I love to travel

I have sailed over 150 days on Holland America, over 75 days on Carnival, and recently fell in love with all-inclusive resorts. I predict that sometime in the near future, the Biden Administration will mandate a so-called “Vaccine Passport “ if you want to travel overseas.

You’ve probably read that Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida signed an executive order banning Vaccine Passports: https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/546202-desantis-issues-executive-order-banning-vaccine-passports

While I’m encouraged by this bold move, more and more cruise lines are requiring passengers be vaccinated or have documentation stating recovery from COVID: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/cruises/2021/03/16/virgin-voyages-require-covid-19-vaccine-all-passengers-crew/4712072001/

Let me repeat myself. Anyone who chooses NOT to get vaccinated has the freedom to refuse. I also have the freedom to be vaccinated so that I can protect my wife, my grandsons, myself, and my friends. Yes, I’ve read that the vaccine may only work for 6 months. I’ve also read that this may be the first of many more shots in the future. I’ve also read that COVID is rampant in Brazil and that a 4th wave may be on its way.

All I can say is that I’m now 100% vaccinated and I’m going to continue traveling.
