Visitors to Cancun to pay new tourist tax April 1

TravelOffPath.com is reporting, “Beginning April 1, international visitors to the state of Quintana Roo which includes Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel and Tulum will begin paying a new tourist tax. State officials have said the new fee proposed by Governor Carlos Joaquín González and approved by the state Congress last year, will generate 600 million pesos (US $29.1 million) in 2021.”

“Every foreign arrival must pay 224 pesos (USD $11) which will help fund more tourism industry development in the state. Tourists will be able to pay the new tax electronically when they book a trip, during their stay or upon exiting the state via a new website called Visitax which will launch before the end of the month.

New terminals will also be set up at the airport to make it easy for visitors to make payments. The tax applies to all international visitors over the age of 15.“
