As Cruise Radio reported on July 8, 2019, “By now, you’ve likely heard that a grandfather slipped on the deck of a cruise ship, causing his 1-year-old granddaughter to fall to her death. Or perhaps you heard that the grandfather was dangling he out a window of some sort when the child accidentally slipped from his fingers.”
CNN is reporting today, “The grandfather of a toddler who fell to her death on a cruise ship in July has been charged with negligent homicide in her death, Puerto Rican authorities said.
Salvatore “Sal” Anello was playing with the girl, Chloe Wiegand, on the 11th floor near a window while the ship was docked in Puerto Rico.
An attorney for the Indiana family has said Anello sat the girl on rails near the open window, thinking it was closed. Prosecutors that Anello “negligently exposed [his granddaughter] through one of the windows,” according to a statement from the Puerto Rican Department of Justice.”
Speaking as a grandfather myself, I can’t imagine the agony this family is going through. News reports stated that the grandfather was a loving and caring person and was filled with grief and remorse after this tragedy.
